John Petronzio - Keys/Vocals
Jon Petronzio, often referred to as JP, heads up the keyboard section of Revision. Growing up with classical training, JP began taking lessons at age 8 with professional Jazz musician, Mitch Schecter, who has played with the likes of Mike Stern. He spent his summers on the Jersey shore lifeguarding by day, and playing ragtime in an ice cream parlor by night.
Upon acceptance to Ithaca College, JP jumped at the chance to get a degree in piano performance, as well as music education. Having never been in a band before, JP got the heads up the Revision might be looking for another member. That same day he opened a fortune cookie which read, "Your future will be filled with good fortune." It was this insight that caused him to write Jay an email and eventually jam with the band. Compared to music school, this audition was cake, no scales, Bach, Debussy. It was quickly apparent that the music and personal chemistry was there and after a couple sit-ins at gigs, JP was a full blown member.
When the band went on hiatus of the same year, JP began taking Jazz lessons with Steve Brown, going in directions he'd never gone before. With extensive work on jazz style and technique, JP was ready to play with a whole new approach to his section. After JP's study of the Hammond B3 organ, Revision's return in the fall of 2002 yielded a new tighter, funkier sound.
JP graduated from Ithaca College in spring of 2004 with a Music Education degree. He teaches private keyboard, composition, and theory lessons in the greater Ithaca area to students of all levels. If you're interested in lessons, you can email him here for more info.
