Hello fans and friends,
First, we'd like to thank you for your support throughout the 9 years we've been touring, recording, and teaching music. Whether you came out to a live show, bought our albums, gave us a couch to crash on, or helped spread the word about the band, you have made our time in REVISION a one of a kind experience.
Starting this fall, the band REVISION is going on indefinite hiatus.
This is obviously a major decision for the three of us, and it's not one that we’ve taken lightly. For almost a decade, REVISION has been our collective priority, but at this point we feel it's time for a change. We'd like to share with you some of the reasons for this decision, and tell you what the near and distant future holds for each of us.
Honestly, there are several reasons why we’ve arrived at this point, and none of them would make for a very dramatic reality TV episode. In early 2010 we had a 3-week conversation about whether everyone was getting what they needed out of REVISION. From a business/financial standpoint we weren't seeing enough growth and things were getting harder to sustain. From a creative standpoint, we've always been bridging the divide between funk and rock. But we had diverging levels of interest in one or the other, which made it hard to promote and write for the band.
Life has been happening to us, just like it's been happening to you. We're all closer to 30 than to 20. For about 10 years we all lived in Ithaca but Devon moved to NYC this year, and all three of us are considering moving to other cities for a change of pace. We all plan to continue playing professionally, both live and in the studio. More on that a little later...
At the moment, and in the coming months, we are focused on playing the best shows we've ever played in our lives. As a self-managed band, we've always felt pressure to build this thing, to build momentum, to make more money, to grow our business, meet agents and talent buyers expectations etc. Along the way, the fun of playing music got lost at times. With a shorter horizon, we're playing differently. We're still working hard (paying down debt and releasing an album) and we'd love for you to see this passion in person in the next few months. If you've ever enjoyed a REVISION show, or wondered what it's like live, now is the time to check out a show!
It's kind of hard to say what the future holds for each of us. Although REVISION will be ending, don't be surprised if you see us collaborating on other projects in the future. Nick is teaching guitar, recording a solo album, playing acoustic shows in the area and starting a School of Rock in Ithaca. JP is teaching piano in Ithaca, playing gospel organ in a church, and working on a new project combining live vintage keys with programmed Ableton loops, that's sure to make you dance hard. Devon is studying drumming and Ableton Live in NYC, growing his freelance web design business, and getting married in September in Chicago.
We do have some unfinished business that needs attending to. This winter, before making this decision we started work on a new album at Play On Brother Studios with Alan Evans of Soulive.
Here are some video diaries from the session.
Here's a video of Alan talking about the record.
The new record "Ricochet" is available now, and only 200 physical copies are being printed. In addtional, you can get a copy with the REVISION "Digital Box Set" which includes over 70 songs and videos, alternate song versions, demo versions and rehearsal tracks, unreleased tracks, early albums no longer available, full album downloads, live TV performances, album artwork, posters, stickers and more!
Although releasing an album these days usually costs us much more than it makes us, we're proud of the work we've done and want to share it with you. The studio has always been a place we’ve thrived in and had the most fun, and we hope our records will continue to impact people long after we leave the stage.
REVISION's final run of shows will be in September, October and early November. We'll mostly be hitting up the markets that have shown us the most love over the years....NYC, Boston, Rochester, Ithaca and some others. Ever wanted us to play your private event? Now's the time to let us know...drop us a line at band@revisionmusic.com and let us know what you're thinking. We'll keep you posted, but you can see the shows we've announced on our gigs page.
Together we've driven over 40,000 miles a year, and have seen this amazing country from top to bottom. We've pumped thousands of gallons of veggie oil out of dumpsters into our van, slept on many floors, and met amazing people we'll know for the rest of our lives. And we have shared the stage together well over 1000 times.
We are very grateful to be among a handful of people on this earth that will ever have such privileges.
With much appreciation for all your support,
Nick, JP and Devon
